The work, set to music for five percussionists by Albanian composer Mehdi Menguiqi, was created originally for Ballet Form Nowoczesnych, and was warmly received in its premiere at the 7th Festival of Cracow Composers in 1994 and in subsequent performances in Poland. Ms. Laska restaged Valle with workshop participants at the University of Queretaro in 1996 and again in 1998 for the company Grosso Modo, where it was again enthusiastically received. The work moves between scenes of primitive passion and lyrical intimacy to Menguiqi's breathtaking score.
