Justin Kagan

Cellist Justin Kagan is celebrating his sixth week as a Portlander. Prior to his arrival he was active in the New York City music scene, performing as a soloist and member of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Brooklyn Philharmonic, Westchester Philharmonic, American Composers Orchestra and many other orchestral and chamber groups. Kagan was the Principal Cello of the State Symphony Orchestra of Mexico for 8-1/2 years, during which time he also performed in a string quartet and was Professor of Cello at the State Conservatory in Toluca, Mexico. Recent solo performances include the concertos of Elgar, Lalo, and the Haydn D Major, as well as many recitals. A student of Gerald Kagan, Robert Koff and Laurence Lesser, he attended Brandeis University and Queens College.
